Peritonitis is an inflammation of the lining of the peritoneal cavity, poor drainage in this area can mean death from blood poisoning if not addressed urgently .
The peritoneum (lining of the cavity) is a thin clear membrane that covers all abdominal organs and the wall of the abdomen, it is remarkably resistant to infection and requires continued contamination to become infected.
