Goldies Itch and Other Problems
Our Golden Retriever, Goldie, was 4 mths old when we bought him. He had been surrendered to the breeder who was also a vet.
We found he had many problems, was terribly destructive and refused to walk on a lead. He would just stand as if he had suction cups on his feet and it was impossible to move him. His litter brother lives nearby and had no problems at all.
Goldie also developed a terrible itch, had sad eyes and his coat was sparse and dull. One vet prescribed cortisone. That did not resolve the problem and I did not like giving a young dog cortisone Another vet diagnosed thyroid problems because of Goldie's dark skin pigment. He was then given tablets for that. .
Our present local vet treated Goldie for his rash with creams, tablets and diet. He did not think Goldie had a thyroid problem.
After months of treatment he referred us to a specialist Dermatologist at Sydney Uni. She took Goldie off the thyroid tablets immediately. He was given allergy tests and other treatments. He was then to go on tablets at a cost of $345 per month, and eventually a vaccine would be made up that would cost only $260 per mth! There was no guarantee that these treatments would work. Our only other alternative was a low dose of Cortisone for life. I definitely did not want that!
We had spent about $2,500 in 12 months and had not really achieved much. I searched the internet and found your website where canine diagnoses are free online. You prescribed blood cleansing and anti-irritant drops, to be given twice a day. They were posted to our address. Goldie was given those for 12 months After the first 6 weeks there was a marked improvement. He is now a very fit, happy, bright eyed, thick coated, energetic dog and has cost only about $300 in medication in that time.
He has not needed any medication for over 6 months now. He had no rash at all even throughout the hot summer months.
My husband walks Goldie each morning on the golf course adjoining our property. He will now walk on a lead and really enjoys just 'running free'.
Goldie is overweight. We are working on his weight loss. He has lost 4kg but has about another 5kg to lose. We follow the BARF diet for his meals.
It is difficult to have him weighed at the Vet's as his only fault now is that he is aggressive towards other dogs. He manages to upset any other dogs in the waiting room! We would love to know what traumas he suffered in the 4 months before he came to us.
It is wonderful to have such a happy and healthy dog for our companion. Our only complaint is that he wants to play all day. His energy far exceeds our own!

Without the wonderful help and herbal treatments prescribed I doubt it would have been possible to keep our beautiful and loyal companion.
